The End.

- I haven’t written on this in over a month. I’ve been extremely busy with work, with school, and with living in general. I feel like my priorities at this point equal more than just posting songs and photos I like on the internet for a few people to read. I know I have threatened to end writing on this before but I’m fairly certain that this is the end for now unless something extremely momentous comes up and I feel like rambling on about it. But, for the select few who still want to see what’s up with me in an annoying “micro-blogging” sense, then I’m about to drop a bomb on you. For a month or two I’ve given Twitter a whirl, and while it’s on the whole pretty annoying it’s easy to just post a thought or two every now and then. Plus I’ve sort of reconciled that Facebook seems to be for your friends while Twitter seems to be for absolute strangers. Either way, here’s the link if you’re interested. See you around:

Cant - The Edge

- Oooh what is this, mope boogie? As much as I love Daniel Rossen’s side project it’s sometimes an all too obvious extension of Grizzly Bear, and this band by another GB member, Chris Taylor, hints at the same type of Grizzly goodness, but this time it’s filtered through electronic and Rn’B lenses. Oh, and I love it.

“…and they don’t even have Mr. Pibb; they foist Dr. Pepper on you with a maddeningly unapologetic shrug then any fool knows Dr. Pepper is no substitute for Mr. Pibb, and it’s an absolute goddamned travesty, or at any rate extremely dissatisfying indeed.”

- David Foster Wallace on two of the greatest soft drinks on the planet.

- Also, Andrew, Houston, and I went to the Strand and then made our way to this comic book shop near Union Square and this masterpiece pulled me in to my first impulse buy in a long time.

- Every July, Barnes & Noble has a pretty snooty 50% off sale on Criterion Collection films. It just so happens that my birthday was last month and I had some leftover cash. It also just so happens that the good people at Criterion decided to put one of the best movies ever made, Akira Kurosawa’s “High and Low,” out on Blu-Ray. I watched it this weekend in the worst sweltering heat I’ve felt in awhile and it was glorious.

Cymbals Eat Guitars - Another Tunguska

- Bands are certainly making it hard for me to settle on album of the year so far. As of right now I can’t help but crown “David Comes to Life” - if you need convincing just pep yourself up with fist-pumper over here. But coming in a swift second place but still maybe possibly almost coming in first is the new record by Cymbals Eats Guitars called “Lenses Alien.” I first heard of these guys when I was living in London a few years ago, and would just kind of walk around to get lost and play their first album nonstop. They specialize in this early 90’s influenced complex but catchy indie rock that I love, and their ambition with this new record really reminds me of “The Monitor” by Titus Andronicus - another obsession of mine. Check out the album version of this song called “Another Tunguska,” a song that I’m pretty sure I posted the demo of a few years ago when it was floating around the internet.

Great American Adventure.

- As a lot of my friends are wont to do these days, my friends Steph and Gabbie are going out on a Great American Road trip. There’s a catch though, Gabbie’s moving to Seattle which a lot of other people are wont to do these days as well. To commemorate their Thelma & Louise-esque savage journey to the heart of the American Dream they’re documenting said journey on the innernetz for your viewing pleasure. It’s called “America, HECK YEAH” and you can find it over here. They’re both pretty funny, upstanding, and equally ridiculous folks so their blog is required reading. SEE THEM buy fireworks south of the border! HEAR THEM wonder why Prince William has his very own park! MARVEL at Gabbie’s first trip to Wegman’s! Read it already.

“I love that Pavement song. I need more Pavement in my life. I need
more flannel, Ethan Hawke, Reality Bites, post college blues, babydoll
dresses and bright tights, Before Sunrise, long hair in boys’ eyes, I
need more of all of that. I have a romantic view of America in the 90s. I mean
our economy was doing well, the President played the saxophone, The
Simpsons had some quality episodes, doritos 3D existed, etc.”

- Hannah puts the 1990’s into perspective.
